We are only seven days into the
new year but this film, El
Secreto de Sus Ojos, from 2009 will be hard to top as the best film I
will see this year. I can’t believe that I had never heard of it and only
stumbled upon it completely by accident. I was able to find Spanish subtitles
because without them the Argentine Spanish would have thoroughly thrown me for
a loop. I plan to watch a few other films from Argentina to help me get used to
the accent and learn the verb paradigms for the added personal pronoun that
they use.
I haven't seen that but I have seen a number from that same director. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002728/?ref_=tt_ov_dr
ReplyDeleteI can recommend "Luna de Avellaneda", "El Hijo de la Novia" and "El Mismo Amor, La Misma Lluvia". All are long and talky (remember, Argentines are also very Italian) but each is much better than they seem at first. I think I like "Luna" the best. You'll also notice he uses a lot of the same actors again and again.
Also, "El Abrazo Partido" and this from Uruguay (but very similar to Argentine movies) "Whiskey" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0331370/). The latter is droll to the point of surreal. I have weird tastes.Hope you like them
Thanks. I will check them out and I already had Luna in my queue to watch.
