Thank you. After a dsy of watching tv coverage of frat boys yelling "WOOT! USA!", and being eviscerated on a blog because I wasn't joining in the bloodfest, this is just what I need.
I saw the images of people celebrating in the streets here on Spanish television. It just seemed like a completely inappropriate response. Do these people think that their lives are suddenly going to be better? I'm glad we killed the guy and tossed his carcass in the sea, but I don't feel like cheering. Obama looks good and that makes me happy. Not much way for right-wing shitbags to spin it against him, not that they won't try.
I agree with you about the scenes of celebration in the States (I'm from NYC, by the way, but I've lived in Spain for over 20 years.)They reminded me of the similar scenes from other countries after 9/11. What stunned me was how aggressive people were about defending their right to treat this like Superbowl Sunday. I got some really vicious comments when I disagreed, and these were from people who I've read and commented with on blogs for years. Yikes. Blogosphere is a scary place the last 24 hours.
